34 CPS schools contaminated by lead — so far

CHICAGO — The number of Chicago Public Schools with excessive lead in their water is up to 34.

Close to 2,000 sinks and drinking fountains have already been tested, and about 4 percent of them are contaminated.

More than one-fourth of all schools tested to date have at least one contaminated fixture.

The school district says, many of those fixtures aren’t used very frequently, so they show a spike in lead at first, then not so much after the water runs for awhile.
